Description
The German Marienberg mining district is certainly among the more rare localities of the Saxon Ore Mountains, and it is often difficult to pinpoint the exact mine or place of discovery for the lack of documentation, and/or renaming mines over the decades of active mining. Mind you that Silver mining in this district started in the early 1500s and ended in the 1950s. Such is the case with this wire silver specimen, tarnished steel-gray by a coating of Acanthite, a species that constitutes also the matrix. While Acanthite is a coating on the silver wire, the matrix is Acanthite crystals. A super thumbnail from a classic German locality!
