Description
This is an exceptional Fluorite specimen from the Cambokeels Mine in Weardale. Gemmy, sharp, twinned pinkish-purple Fluorite cubes are covered with just the right amount of sharp, translucent sparkling Quartz creating a great contrast. This incredibly aesthetic specimen, with only very minor blemishes, comes from a mine that has worked a Fluorite vein to recover Lead since the mid-1800s. Since 1905 varying owner mined for Fluorite with the most recent production cycle at Cambokeels in the early 1970s. In the decades that followed, mine was one of the most prolific sources of Fluorite in Weardale. The mine was abandoned in 1989 and subsequently sections of the mine collapsed and tunnels flooded.
