Description
This is an ultra-rare Silver-Lead-Antimony Sulfosalt from the type locality Herja Mine in Romania, a historic mine that for over a century has produced some of the world´s finest and well-crystallized Stibnite specimens besides exceptional Fizelyite pieces such as this one. Steel-gray to lead-gray acicular crystals to 1 cm with a metallic luster abundantly cover an ore-rich matrix. The Fizelyite is partially covered with felt-like Plumosite (which is a name that can refer to any "feather ore", usually Boulangerite, but sometimes Jamesonite or Zinkenite) and associated with black Spahlerite and gray (due to Plumosite inclusions) Calcite. An exceptional piece from the heydays of the mine in the 1960s. An unusually big specimen for a rare mineral species.
