Description
Banská Štiavnica [German Schemnitz] is home to vein-type epithermal precious metal and base metal deposits. But what makes this locality even more interesting to geologists is that the Banská Štiavnica ore district is in the central zone of the Štiavnica andesite stratovolcano (2500 km²) with a caldera in its center. And this specimen is a classic piece from this locality: Sharp, brassy-golden Chalcopyrite crystals over 1 cm with a deep metallic luster and a faint striation associated with brownish-black Sphalerite on a bed of sparkling Quartz crystals. A historic specimen, with extremely little damage, rich in contrast, and becoming exceedingly rare on the market.
