Description
Several well developed crystals of cubed Galena richly lining a vug in typically matrix. They are sharp edged as well and showing fine metallic sheen. This fine specimen comes from the well known German locale Maubacher Bleiberg 7 km SW Düren near Cologne. The locality features triassic greywacke-quartz conglomerates including lead and minor zinc and copper ores, covered by a layer of sandstone. The deposit was worked from an open cut for several centuries and finally abandoned in 1969. Today, after some decades of use for dumping rubbish, the site is completely backfilled. (mindat)
