Description
A super colourful German Crocoite combo from the well known locale of Callenberg in Saxony. The single crystals here are excellent formed, multiple faceted and almost superbly terminated. The colour is a significant dark burnt orange and the transparency is great considering species and locality. This is an extremely important specimen for several reasons. Firstly, it is pretty and rich with beautiful, slightly transparent Crocoites to 1,0cm. These have a form distinct from Crocoite from any other more well-known modern locality. But here we have also a beautiful combination with pale olive-gray coloured botryoidal Chalcedony covering a vug at the bottom of the piece. This fact gives the specimen way more contrast and dramatics. THIS locality, though, is not modern - pieces date back 125 years old or more, although admittedly there was a small find in the early 1970s of more specimen material here and its hard to say which this came from. In every case a super specimen with great aesthetics.
