Description
A super colourful German Crocoite from the well known locale of Callenberg in Saxony. The single crystals here are excellent formed, multiple faceted and almost suuperbly terminated. The colour is a significant dark burnt orange and the transparency is great considering species and locality. This is an extremely important specimen for several reasons. Firstly, it is pretty and rich with beautiful, sharply terminated Crocoites to 1,0cm. These have a form distinct from Crocoite from any other more well-known modern locality. THIS locality, though, is not modern - pieces date back 125 years old or more, although admittedly there was a small find in the early 1970s of more specimen material here and its hard to say which this came from. Moreover, it is the largest and one of the best I know of that has been available. This is a killer piece all the way and exceedingly hard to come by nowadays.
