Description
A superb half shell of Quartz richly lined with relatively large and well developed crystals of Sphalerite, accented by brassy multifaced Chalcopyrite. This is in any case a striking Sphalerite on Quartz specimen from the historic Schemnitz mining district of Slovakia. The Sphalerite here is multiple faceted, sharp and highly lustrous with only minor edge wear. Banska Stiavnica has been mined for Gold and Silver as far back and nearly 1000 years ago (11th Century). Incredibly enough, this was operating in the 1990s, and produced an incredible amount of classic display specimens that made Slovakia one of the great mineral producers in the history of European mining.
