Description
Look at this classic historic specimen from the Loorz collection, Bockswiese, Germany. Golden Marcasite with brick-red patina as so-called “Speerkies” (don’t even try to translate this old German term coined by miners) up to over 1 cm tall. The clusters are beautifully arranged on the perfect display side. The handwritten label says Hüls/Westf[alen] and is synonym for the Auguste Victoria Mine (AV for short), a former RAG Aktiengesellschaft hard coal mine in Marl and Haltern am See, which closed in 2015.
