Description
This is an unusually good Quartz specimen from Uffeln, a former limestone quarry in northwest Germany. A group of very slender, extremely transparent Quartz crystals are coated with a whiff of Limonite, with some section actually encrusted in the Iron oxide. The crystals which are up to 3 cm tall show the Dauphine habit. It is said that in the past, Quartz crystals from the quarry were sold to Philips and uses as “Piezo Quartz”. A really top specimen, the likes of which can no longer be found because the quarry, which operated until the early 1980s is now a nature conservancy that is strictly off limits.
