Description
If it weren´t for the matrix, brecciated volcanic rock, one might think it´s a good Australian Precious Opal, but this is a top piece of European Precious Opal from the renowned deposits near Dubník in Slovakia. The specimen displays a wonderful and distinct play of colors: blue, red and green. A classic in top quality from an opal deposit that has been known since Roman times. It is assumed that mining dates back to the 11th -12th century, however it is not recorded until the 16th century. The discovery of Australian opal deposits forced the mines to close in 1922.
