Description
The Messerbach (aka Mässerbach) deposit in the Swiss Binn Valley is practically around the corner from the famous Lengenbach Mine. The locality sits in Triassic dolomite marble, however, contains significantly smaller quantities and smaller sulfosalts in terms of crystal size. But it is famous for the wonderfully twinned Dolomite crystals. Just like this specimen: Very sharp, water clear translucent, and with excellent striations on the crystal faces and gemmy. The crystal with a hint of amber color is perched on a little matrix of “sugar-grain” dolomite.
