Description

Over the centuries, the ancient tin deposits of Zinnwald near Altenberg in the Saxon Ore Mountains, intermittently mined from ca. 1440 until 1991, have repeatedly provided excellent specimens with Scheelite, Wolframite-Ferberite, Topaz and Cassiterite. And here we have an excellent example with sharp-edged Cassiterite twins, shaped like a slingshot, also called “Visiergraupen”, a German miners´ term for twinned Cassiterite crystals. The Cassiterite crystals have a superb metallic luster and are very sharp. Judging by the old label, the piece probably dates from the beginning of the 20th century. Rare material that is hard to come by nowadays
