Description
Spherocobaltite is rare Cobalt-bearing carbonate that sometimes gets confused with Cobalt-bearing Calcite. To help you understand the difference: Spherocobaltite is its own mineral species, while Cobalt-bearing Calcite, often called Cobaltocalcite (such as auction item #3962) is a variety of Calcite. O.k.?
The Spherocobaltite crystals on this specimen are sharp and gemmy, translucent and lustrous, show excellent terminations and smooth crystal faces. The matrix is white Aragonite, and I am pretty sure that upon closer inspection, one would be able to find rare arsenates in the white matrix. Nothing unusual for a specimen from the Cobalt and Nickel mine Aghbar in the Moroccan Bou Azzer mining district.
