Description

It does not happen often that you have a mineral species from a type locality that you can actually see without using a microscope. But exactly this is the case with this Vesuvianite specimen. The species was named for the volcano Mt. Vesuvius where this specimen is from. Sharp, root beer colored Vesuvianite crystals with a vitreous luster and pseudo-hexagonal cross sections (Vesuvianite is tetragonal), gemmy and with attractive striation on the prism faces are associated with orange brown, glassy and partially gemmy Hessonite crystals. White, lustrous, isometric Sodalite crystals is the third species on this specimen. The individual crystals show minimal abrasion. Just an overall good specimen!
