Description
This is a large and impressive piece of native Arsenic. Matt anthracite in color and typical layered structure. A characteristic and now rare specimen from the Gabe Gottes Mine in the Saint-Marie-aux-Mines district. This kind of specimen has all but disappeared from the market. I vividly remember the times in the 1980s, when collectors from Alsace and Germany accessed the mine which were deemed unsafe, and recovered pieces like this one. Nowadays, the mines in the Saint-Marie-aux-Mines district are turned into tourist attractions or closed to collecting.
Take heed of the warning, that the Gabe Gottes Mine in the Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines district is protected by an archaeological mining district status and all collecting is strictly prohibited.
