Description
These matrix Cafarsites are fine examples of this RARE alpine species. Cafarsite is a complex arsenate, rarely seen in the world; and these reddish-brown are actually cubic (the more rare habit for the species). The largest crystal measures 6 mm on edge, and the two crystals grew within a gap in this fine-grained gneiss. With magification we see a bunch of smaller "cousins" here and there as well. From the TYPE LOCALITY, the Wanni Glacier- Monet Cervandone area of Binntal in Switzerland. Overall, a very good specimen, with a sharp, unusual habit.
