Description
The iron mines of Elba, most of which are long closed, were choice collecting localities for mineral enthusiasts, as early as the beginning of the 19th. century. The Pyrite specimens, such as this one, were especially prized. In this case, jet-black, sparkling, bladed crystals of Hematite act as the matrix for a relatively large, complex, brassy crystal of Pyrite, to 2,6 cm across. Classic and very aesthetic combination material and highly desired in this quality. Only minor bruising at the periphery.
