Description
Several glassy, amber coloured grains of rare species Thálenite-(Y) accompanied by pale olive-green masses of uncommon variety Yttrofluorite from the Norwegian locality of Hundholmen of Nordland. I have seen by far more beautiful mineral specimens over the years, but this one is rare and super interesting. Thálenite-(Y) is a rare silicate named after Tobias Robert Thalén (28 December 1827, Köping, Sweden – 27 July 1905, Uppsala, Sweden), physicist and astronomer. He developed a method of discovering iron deposits using magnetic fields. (mindat)
