Description

What an excellent and rich specimen with steel gray Covellite with a striking blue iridescence. The indistinct rosette-shaped clusters (you still can surmise the hexagonal symmetry) of thin, bladed crystals are up to almost 2 cm in size and show a great metallic luster. They are perfectly accompanied by brassy yellow Pyrite. This super ore specimen from the Calabona Mine near Alghero in northwestern Sardinia that worked a porphyry copper deposit. The mine has been abandoned for decades and similar pieces were recovered at the end of the 19th century. They had to survive the vagaries of history, and as a result good Covellite specimen from Sardinia have always been extremely rare and are guarded like treasures by their owners.
