Description
This is a big blocky Hematite cluster, about 4 cm in diameter, perched on massive Hematite ore. The clusters nearly pristine with numerous excellent high metallic crystal faces, some of which are beautifully striated. They are steel-grey to black with wonderful red-violet tarnish. The iron deposits in the Rio Marina area have been known and mined since the Etruscan time, which had its pinnacle ca. 500 BC. It is considered a true great classic European locality. The Hematite specimens from Elba are some of the most unique and distinctive for the species in the entire world.
