Description
Sapphirine, named for the allusion to its Sapphire-like blue color, is rarely found in such sharp, well-formed crystals, except for these from recent discoveries in Madagascar. And this is an exceptional miniature with Sapphire crystals perched on/in a Feldspar-Phlogopite matrix typical for the Morafeno deposit. The Morafeno workings exploited a Uranothorianit and Phlogopite deposit in the late 1950s in the rural municipality Tranomaro in the Amboasary Sud District of Anosy, Madagascar. The deposit is a body of Scapolite-bearing Pyroxenite.
