Description
It does not happen often that a rare mineral species comes in big crystals. So it is quite a surprise that this Kovdorskite thumbnail from the type locality, the Russian Kovdor Zheleznyi Iron mine in the Kovdor Massif north of the arctic circle and close to the border to Finland fits that bill. Well crystallized, gemmy with a faint yellowish color and excellent monoclinic terminations; a pristine piece which can be displayed from every angle. BTW, the Kovdor Zheleznyi Mine is type locality for 14 (!) mineral species!
