Description
A Tourmaline crystal from the Anjanabonoina pegmatite field, famous for the large and multicolored tourmaline crystals in Madagascar´s central highland. The crystal has a typical trigonal pointy termination with modifications, and the characteristic striation along the prism parallel to the c-axis. The color is deep raspberry red at the termination and light olive green towards the lower section of the crystal. The back of the lower section of this specimen shows contact.
People familiar with Tourmaline from this Malagasy locality suggest that it may be Fluor-Liddicoatite, Liddicoatite, or Elbaite. For a positive identification, a single crystal X-Ray Diffraction analysis (XRD) and a wavelength dispersive X-Ray Analysis (WDS) would be necessary.
