Description
Perched high on massive, slightly greenish, Chromediopside bearing Quartz are a few crystals, up to 1 cm in length, of slightly translucent to transparent Uvarovite, the chromium rich member of the garnet family. These are gorgeous classic dodecahedrons with excellent deep green colour and superb luster. This is a relatively huge crystal and thus an important specimen for the species, with just minor edge wear when most of them you see are worn heavily or damaged from being popped out of the matrix. The deposit at Outokumpu, Finland, has produced the world´s finest specimens of Uvarovite and these are old classics!
